REVANGE OF THE DIAMOND DIGGER

Performing the script of Kirdjomulyo, Teater Koma presents the works of their new generation.

Sanjoyo, is a man obsessed with searching and finding diamonds in order to gain wealth. Sanjoyo worked hard day and night disregarding his physical condition. Sanjoyo was hurt deeply when one day his girlfriend, Sunarsih said to him that she would only marry a wealthy man. The thought then became the root of Sanjoyo’s obsession.

In his search to find diamond, Sanjoyo was accompanied by Siswadi, a young man who owed Sanjoyo his life. Without realizing it, his obsessive search has destroyed Sanjoyo’s soul, because it was based on vengeance. The plan which he kept repeating in his head is that once he become rich, he would be able to get any girl he like. “ And once I got their love, I will throw it to the deepest, darkest hole,” he said.

Siswadi had seen that Sanjoyo’s obsession slowly destroy his soul. He had tried time and again with the help of Sarbini, another diamond digger, to warn Sanjoyo of this grave matter, but Sanjoyo just ignores him.

His tireless search finally paid off. He found an enormous diamond on the verge of a river. It was estimated that the value of the diamond would reach 300.000, an amount large enough to make him the wealthiest man in his hometown.

At the same time Sunarsih regretted what she had said and went to search for Sanjoyo. She tried to apologize and mend their broken relationship. But Sanjoyo paid no attention to this attempt. At night he went to find another diamond. Sunarsih who was worried followed him, but when she was trapped in a big hole Sanjoyo just laughed.

Sanjoyo’s diamond was missing. He thought it was Sarbini who took his precious source of obsession. In a chase Sanjoyo fell off a cliff and died.

The Diamond Digger was written by Kirdjomulyo, a writer who was born in 1930 and in his career has written about 27 drama scripts.

The young generations of Teater Koma, a theatre troupe established by N. Riantiarno performed well. The most show stopping performance probably was given by Ledy Yoga S. He managed to embodied the character of the innocent Sarbini, whose humor successfully made the audience laughed.
