THE RUSSIAN CULTURAL GRANDEUR
The Russian Cultural Week introduced traditional assets about their the Indonesian public.
When the word Russia is expressed what would come over an Indonesian citizen ? Is it the famous ballet ? Is it Tolstoy’s “Anna Karenina “ ? President Putin ? A few days ago the Jakarta citizens were having the opportunity to look further at the cultural wealth of the state with the largest area width in the world.
A Russian Cultural Week was held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the bilateral relationship between the two nations at some cultural centres in Jakarta in July 2009 last. Traditional dances, ballet, people’s musical show, and film showing were few activities presented in the aforesaid program.
After being opened by a series of shows at TIM (Taman Ismail Marzuki/Ismail Marzuki Cultural Park), the Russian Cultural Week took place at Gedung Kesenian (Art Building), Jakarta on the second day. The first performance entertainment before the public was a traditional dance show displayed by the Moscow State Dance Theatre Gzelle.
The dance performance showed by Gzelle has been created by Vladimir Zakharov, a famous Russian choreographer. Zakharov was known due to his inseparable dedication in developing the Russian traditional dance. During his thirty years career he spent most of his time creating dances that could convey to the world widely regarding the beauty of Russian art and culture and community tradition.
The traditional dance performance concerned was followed by a conjuring show presented by Elena Akatova, one of the winners of an international conjuring competition held in Monte Carlo. Akatova displayed a conjuring show that seemed to be simple one. Equipped with a big sized piece of cloth Yakatova wrapped her body for a few seconds. By the time the cloth was opened apparently Yakatova has already changed her costume and this was done several times.
A Russian show performance would certainly be felt as incomplete if not accompanied by a ballet dance show which is already known all over the world. Two soloist from the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre Russia, Maria Allash and Vladimir Neporozhny were giving one episode of the dance from Swan lake created by Tchaikovsky.
The most 9nteresting performance was given by Vlad Scandalli Botvinovsky, an accordionist who won several awards in Russia. Botvinovsky is known for his excellent improvisation which was proven afterwards when Marusya Nainggolan from the Gedung Kesenian, Jakarta invited him to play together with her musical group without any preparation.
Another objective of organizing the abovementioned event, is to maintain more and more closer bilateral relationship between the two nations, all at once as a follow-up action of an agreement made up by President Vladimir Putin and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono when President Putin paid a state visit to Indonesia in September 2007 last.
After performing in Jakarta, the Russian Cultural Week was also organized in Yogyakarta on the 1st through 3rd recently. As a reciprocal act, an Indonesian Cultural Week shall also be conducted in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia in he coming year 2010.
